About Us

As a creative, entrepreneurial business, we love a challenge. And we find it really stimulating to look outside our boundaries and work with other like-minded companies and individuals.

We are honored to have ongoing partnerships with a number of collaborative partners to spread awareness and to build a community around artisanal matcha.

Matchæologist ®

Matchæologist® (抹茶オロジスト) is an artisanal Japanese matcha green tea brand that focuses on premium-quality matcha and contemporary matcha-ware products. We specialize in producing the purest and most potent form of green tea at the highest-end of the quality spectrum, or what we call 'artisanal grade' matcha.

Served by the world's leading tea sommeliers and highly regarded by tea connoisseurs, our range of matcha is acclaimed for its key differentiating characteristics — vivid pine green color, refreshing 'oika' (覆い香) aromas and an exquisite savory 'umami' (うま味) flavor profile — a result of the meticulous process that starts with manually extracting only the most tender, highly prized parts of the virgin buds of shade-grown tea trees, and culminates in artisan-roasting each batch to perfection, to bring out the finest nuances of flavor in every roast.

With the benefit of our years of experience, we provide unparalleled support, ranging from onboarding training and ongoing education to tea consultant services, including matcha master classes, workshops, and matcha tasting events.

Our Matcha

CEREMONIAL MATCHA:

The distillation of our master tea blenders' and farmers' generations of experience, our ceremonial matcha range is hand-picked from the topmost, virgin leaves of shade-grown tea-trees during the first harvest to create outstanding grades of matcha that rival fine wines with the sophistication and breadth of their flavors. Our ceremonial ranges are ideal for brewing on their own, with warm or ice cold water, or with small amounts of milk. The higher the grade, the sweeter, less bitter, and more umami-rich they are.

CULINARY MATCHA:

Our culinary matcha grade is a matcha of choice for leading baristas, chefs, pâtissiers, chocolatiers, food artisans and manufacturers. Suitable for use in beverages and dessert recipes, our culinary matcha boasts a vibrant green color, mellow umami, and the robust intensity required to shine through other complementary ingredients. It is perfect for all kinds of drinks and dessert recipes ranging from matcha lattes, cappuccinos, frappés, ice cream, chocolate, fresh or raw desserts, to baked sweets, bread and pastries.
